Painter of the Year Critique and Judging

All CVWS members who have won any 2017-2018 ribbons can bring a painting to the April meeting.  It does not need to be the painting that won the initial award   Paintings will be awarded 1st & 2nd Place, Honorable Mention and People’s Choice, (which will be voted on by attendees.)

Paintings should be delivered between 6:00-6:30 PM.  They must arrive before 6:30 or they will not be considered.  The judge, David Fairrington, will review the paintings between 6:30-7:00.  While he is reviewing the paintings, attendees can wait in the lobby area.  You’re welcome to bring something to eat or drink to share with everyone.  There will be a short business meeting at 7PM.

DAVID FAIRRINGTON is our Painter of the Year judge for 2018.

Mr. Fairrington is an Internationally known artist who grew up in Texas and graduated from Texas Tech University.  After graduating, David served as an “Army Combat Artist” for the Dept. of the Army in Vietnam.  The paintings he did are now in the U.S. Army Center of Military History in Washington D.C.

David was named a “Master Artist” by “International Artist” magazine and his portraits are in private and corporate collections.  David paints corporate officers, business owners as well as families and children.  He also paints celebrity portraits;  his most recent being portraits for ABC Television and the Disney Corp.  His landscapes are in homes and county buildings in Southern California.

Sometimes referred to as a modern Degas, Fairrington has been commissioned to paint dancers from the School of American Ballet, New York City, NY, the New York City Ballet, NY, Westside Ballet Academy, Santa Monica, CA, The Studio Ballet, Fresno, CA, The Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento, CA and the Peninsula Ballet, Palos Verdes Estates, CA. His most recent painting was for the Miami Ballet, Miami FL.

Recent shows have been at the Edward-Dean museum in Cherry Valley, CA and Claremont, CA.  David is an art judge and teaches painting and life drawing.  He also conducts critique sessions at the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs and at the Threshold gallery in Redlands, CA
